Scots formed the first large group of settlers in Central Texas and the first Salado Gathering was held in 1961.  The event is now held at Pace Park,  Salado, Texas, (near Waco),

The Highlands & Islands Association of Celtic Gatherings, Inc. was formed in 1989 and presented its first games on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1990.  We wanted to preserve our Scottish heritage & continue the tradition of the Scottish Games. The non-profit organization has expanded its interest in everything Celtic -- the music, the culture & the traditions -- and present it to the people of the Gulf Coast as an educational endeavor. The Celts are a specific group of people who settled in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall (South West England), Isle of Man, Brittany & Galicia.  The games are at 15321 County Farm Rd. in Gulfport Mississippi.

 The event conducts the NSW State Pipe Band Championships & NSW State Highland Dancing Championships. Traditional Highland Feats of Strength including the Trans-Tasman Challenge, traditional and fun games, clan and vendor tents.  Held at Castle Hill Showground, in northern Sydney, NSW.

Two street parades, one early afternoon and one at dusk under candlelight escort. The event will be held in the centre of Beechworth with the most anyone will pay being $2.00 donation. Five pipe bands, three dancing groups (both Irish and Highland) and over ten bands/entertainers.
